They are 100% mine. When I started the book (this is another long story, so I'll skip it) Steve at one point said, "Why don't you tell the story of how greater path magic came to Midkemia?" That's what led me to the riftwar story. But as far as the characters and particulars, that's why I put it "500 years ago," compared to the game we were playing, so I could make free with the world and not create gaming conflicts. As the tail is now wagging the dog, so to speak, I'm keeping one eye on where the story is going and the other eye on Steve madly changing things as I decide to single-handedly re-write Midkemian history. Seriously, a lot of the time you'll hear, "That's how it is in the books; it's different in the 'real' Midkemia." We'll probably reconcile all this stuff at some point if we do publish. If we don't publish, this stuff has no bearing on Steve's games at home.
