I see the Black Robes as similar to the Catholic Church

There is 0% Chatholic church influence in the design of the Tsurani or any other aspect of Kelewan culture. You'll see some influence in the design of Eastern Churches in the next series I start, because some temples are more institutionalized in the east than they are in the west.
