The Bas-Tyra's at the time of the book were related to the crown on Rodric III's wife's side of the family. "Royal cousins," is a common enough term for anyone who can claim tiles to the king.

I don't know exactly where Guy fit, because I didn't bother to make a family tree. For the sake of argument, assume his relationsh to Rodric IV was about the same as Borric's, but Borric was from the King's father's side of the family, while Guy was from the mother's side of the family.
