Why should Midkemia have 5 riftwars in 500 years, after having had none in the previous 10,000?

The Tsurani rift, the accidental discovery of Midkemia, was the triggering event.

After that, it's like a concussion. The more you have, the more you're likely to have one and the more damage you'll suffer.
