OK. I was completely lost for a moment. The "voice" was Macros's own consciousness, expressing the will of the god. What Macros's didn't get was the point Nakor was making. He was giving up his own identity to merge with the God. In other words, all that would have come from that melding was Sarig would have gotten a little better a little faster and Macros would cease to exist. From Sarig's point of view, it was a trivial addition (considering his geological time frame of reference) while to Macros, it would have been utter oblivion, a point Nakor makes as they talk.
