Do you know the overall plan of what you want to write in the day?

I know where it's going to end.  Once I figure out how it's going to start, then I sort of let it unfold and see what happens in the middle.  That "muscle memory" thing I talk about?  It's as if my subconscious has decided, "Now you need to do something about the relationship between this character and that character," so I start having them talk about their conflict or whatever while drinking, or riding from A to B, or in a lull in the battle, or wherever it's appropriate, while some other part of me is tracking "now you need to be moving to discover what's behind that door, over there," so then the discussion takes place as they're creeping up to the door.  It's something like that.
