Betrayal at Krondor features an original story inspired by Raymond E. Feist's successful Riftwar saga. The game, comprising nine chapters of interactive play, takes place in the land of Midkemia.

Each chapter has its own specific goals, when they are achieved you move to the next chapter.  There are the usual role-playing type of character definitions, such as health, strength, stamina, and speed. combined with the ability for players to develope their characters skills, through an experience system.

The story of the game, was later written about in the book, Krondor the Betrayal.
