There was never a "plan," per se. When I wrote Magician I didn't even know if that would sell. When I finished the Riftwar, I was already into Daughter of the Empire with Janny and really for a while it would end with the six books.
But my publishers just kept asking, for more. it was about the time I started the Serpentwar I realized I'd end up writing about all five riftwars.
