History tells of the Riftwars, but what happened in them is lost in time (mostly due to the really nasty crap that happened in the last Riftwar). Historians know some of the stuff, and many of the names of significant people are remembered, but keep in mind to the working class stiff in the Kingdom, he doesn't care what happened ten years ago, let alone 500.
